Aphrodite Pandemos

Mistress of the Paphian Shore, She Who Distills Grace

The Morning Invocation

Hear me, daughter of Dione, foam-born queen who rules the hearts of gods and mortal men alike. I light this flame to honour the sweetness you bring to the bitter world. By the rose and the dove, be present in my house this day. Grant me charis — the grace that makes a plain thing beautiful and a hard word kind.

Pour a libation of clear water or sweet wine while speaking these words.

Ideas for Offering

  • Pour a libation at the threshold before you leave the house
  • Keep myrtle growing near the shrine and prune it as an act of devotion
  • Bathe, dress, and adorn yourself deliberately as an offering in itself
  • Set out a mirror on her altar and speak no unkindness into it

Accepted Offerings

  • Fresh sea salt and sea-shells gathered at dawn
  • Honey, sweet wine, and pomegranates
  • Copper coins or small tokens of rose-gold
  • Perfumed oils, specifically myrtle or rose
  • Myrtle branches, roses, apples, and doves' feathers

Offering Taboos

  • Withered or dry flowers; she asks for the living bloom
  • Offerings of pork or swine are traditionally avoided
  • Words spoken in cruelty or cynicism within the shrine
  • Never use her rites to shame another's body or desire
